Hi Steve,

You can now specify 'forever' when setting a classroom policy. Be careful when selecting this though, because the classroom policy will override the school policies for everyone registered in the class.

Hi Graham

The podcast in question is found on this page:

http://www.edu20.org/teacher_resources/list/42177

This is a page that I have been "playing" with as I learn how everything works. Please keep in mind that all seems to be working at the moment, however when I first added the resource, it was not available to students.

Hi Steve,

Could you send me the URL of the class that contains the resource. I would like to do a bit more investigation. In general, resources that are added to lessons are immediately available and don't need to be moderated before students can access them, so I'd like to understand the situation some more.

Thanks,
Graham

Hi Graham

By resources, what I was referring to was an iTunes podcast. In other words, a resource that involved a URL and was therefore saved to the edu20 library. One of my students was unable to open it until (I assume) it had been moderated.

I understand why library resources need moderation prior to being available to the wider community, but; a suggestion ............................ can these resources added by a teacher be immediately available to students in his/her class? Before making it available to the class, the teacher will have determined its appropriateness for his/her class.

I'm not sure if this is technically feasible, but what it would allow is a teacher to add a resource just prior to a lesson and know that it will then be available for immediate use by the class. I know that the response to this will always be "you should be better prepared". This is fine in theory, but in reality this is not always possible.

Hope this doesn't confuse the issue further.

regards

Hi Steven,

Could you explain what you mean by "opening the resource"? If you add a resource into a lesson or into your class resources list, it should display the actual resource (assuming you have selected "show in frame") or a link to the attachment. It will also display a link to the community resource itself, which is currently only readable once the resource has been accepted by a moderator. This way, the students can access the resource (since it can be shown in a frame) without having to click through to the community resource.

I can see how this can be confusing though, but before looking into how to improve this, I'd like to make sure I understand the scenario.

Cheers,
Graham

Here's a list of what we plan to work on this week:

- improving the listing of classes for a school
- improving the display of friend statuses
- quiz preview
- looking into a few issues that were reported (all minor)
- allow class policies to be set indefinitely
- various gradebook improvements

If there are any high priority things you'd like to see added, please let us know!

Cheers,

Does this only happen with a particular type of resource, such as a .PPT? Also, if the resource is in your lesson, you can click 'Don't show in frame' and the system should display just a link to the file.

Hi Aiden

I don't think this would work because not all countries offer their schooling based around the 3 distinct areas of Elementary, Middle and High School. I know that most have a similar structure, but they're not all exactly the same.

For example, here in Australia some locations operate middle schools, but many only operate Primary and Secondary Schools. I worked in the UK for a number of years. Where I worked actually had 4 schools - Prep, Middle, Secondary and 6th Form (where 6th Form is year 12 and 13 and is mostly preparation for tertiary studies).

I think all bases are covered if the classification is as edu20 has already provided. It enables classification (and therefore searching) based on the year the class is intended for (eg. years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc up to higher ed). This is independent of the school that they are a part of.

However, you have picked up on a classification I haven't been able to find - "Special Education". I think this would be very good to have added.

regards

Steve
